Leonard S. Hyman, a financial analyst and economist specializing in public utility finance, regulation and economics, is a senior advisor to Black & Veatch, and editor-in-chief of Black & Veatch’s Pathfinder and Energy Strategies reports. Previously, as senior industry advisor to the Global Power Group at Salomon Smith Barney, he advised on industry restructuring projects. Before that, he headed the utility research group at Merrill Lynch, with responsibility for coverage of energy and telecommunications utilities. While at Merrill Lynch, he participated in privatization teams for companies in the UK, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina. Mr. Hyman is author, co-author or editor of six books: Energy Risk Management: A Primer for the Utility Industry, America’s Electric Utilities: Past, Present and Future, The Privatization of Public Utilities, The New Telecommunications Industry , The Water Business, and Unlocking the Benefits of Restructuring: A Blueprint for Transmission. Samuel Glasser edits the Pathfinder climate change newsletter and other publications for the Enterprise Management Solutions Division. Before joining Black & Veatch, he served with the New York Mercantile Exchange corporate communications department for 15 years executing most internal and external writing assignments, including articles for outside publication, the annual report, speeches, the monthly newsletter, brochures, and other materials. Previously, he was the energy editor at the Journal of Commerce where he wrote extensively on all facets of the energy industry and covered the chemical markets. He began his career at The Star-Ledger in Newark, N.J., as a general assignment reporter. He holds a bachelor of arts in history from the University of Bridgeport. Brent Franzel is a principal at Cardinal Point Partners, LLC, a full service government relations firm representing corporations, municipal governments, universities and other clients before Congress and Federal agencies. He has nearly 30 years of experience in federal and state government and government relations. He began his career in 1981 on the legislative staff of then Missouri Gov. Christopher S. Bond, and later served on Mr. Bond’s staff upon his election to the U.S. Senate. Andrew C. Byers is an associate vice president in Black & Veatch’s energy business with 24 years of energy and environmental experience. He serves as the division’s legislative and regulatory policy advisor, as well as a senior project manager for its environmental health and safety business. He previously served as assistant general counsel with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, and has worked for an international oil and gas exploration company as a title attorney in the southwestern United States. David Frenkil is an assistant editor of the Carbon and Climate Law Review and co-author with David Freestone of the chapter, "Emissions Trading in the U.S.: A New Regime Approaching?" to be published April 2010 in European Energy Law Report VII. His website, EfficiencyLaw.com, provides updates on legal, policy and business issues related to energy efficiency and climate change. Mr. Frenkil is a juris doctor candidate (May 2010) at George Washington University Law School. He has worked on renewable energy credit agreements for a leading solar energy company and served in the U.S. Department of Energy general counsel’s office working on the development of electric transmission needed for increased generation of renewable energy resources. Prior to law school, David briefly pitched for a professional baseball team in Antwerp, Belgium.
Bill Kemp is a vice president who leads the Strategy and Sustainability Services consulting practice at Black & Veatch. He serves as executive sponsor for Pathfinder. He also directs Thought Leadership activities for Black & Veatch’s management consulting division.. Mr. Kemp has led more than 300 consulting projects around the world in strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, technology, market economics, sustainability, industry restructuring, and cost-management. His work on environmental and energy policy started long ago with a stint on the White House staff during the Carter administration. Bill earned a bachelor of arts, magna cum laude, from Harvard University, and a master of public policy from the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley.
