At Black & Veatch, we call what we do Building a World of Difference.
We're creating innovative solutions to engineering challenges around the world while
helping to bring environmental sustainability, clean air and water, reliable power
and information to communities worldwide. The way we see it, as infrastructure engineers
and builders, it is our duty to do right by the world. That’s why every day,
on every project, we’re passionate about making a difference.
If you’re a high school student interested in pursuing a career in engineering
and want to make a difference in the world, we invite you to start learning more
through Black & Veatch’s Explorer Post and Information Days.
Explorer Post
- What do engineers do all day?
- What high school classes would help me get into a college engineering program?
- How can I figure out what type of engineering field is right for me?
- Why would I want to spend one evening a month at a Black & Veatch Explorer Post
Meeting?
Join the Black & Veatch Explorer Post and find answers to these questions and
more!
Black & Veatch has sponsored an engineering Explorer Post for more than 30 years.
The Post consists of Black & Veatch employees who donate their time to help
Kansas City metropolitan area high school students ages 14-19 learn about the different
disciplines of engineering. The Post holds meetings monthly, and each month is dedicated
to a different discipline of engineering. Students will have the opportunity to
listen to speakers who are experts in their particular field, tour local engineering
oriented businesses and colleges, meet with area college representatives, learn
about engineering outside of the Kansas City area and most importantly, meet other
high school students who share an interest in math, science and engineering.
Black & Veatch Explorer Posts are sponsored by Learning for Life a national program that provides programs
that are designed to support schools and youth - serving organizations in preparing
students to successfully handle the complexities of today's society.
The annual membership fee for the Explorer Post is $15 and covers insurance and
transportation costs, and Learning for Life administrative costs. To apply to become
a member, please click here for an application. Please note that a parent/gardian
signature is required.

Information Days
ENGINEERING — The Unexpected Difference
Imagine:
- Using 3-D imaging tools and virtual reality software to design a state-of-the-art
water treatment plant
- Bringing electricity for the first time to a remote region of Bolivia — in
the process unearthing and helping to preserve ancient Amazonian artifacts
- Exploring the use of fiber optic architecture, wireless broadband, high-speed networking
and other future telecommunications technologies to help Jacksonville, Florida,
become the nation's "Most Wired City"
- Installing catalytic reduction equipment at an Indiana power plant to cut its air
pollution by 90 percent
If you know of students interested in learning more about engineering, we strongly
encourage you to have them attend Information Days at Black & Veatch and begin
thinking about an exciting career that can make a real difference for a better world.
Black & Veatch hosts one event in the fall, and one in the spring. Students
are invited to attend in order to learn about classes needed to prepare for an exciting
career in engineering, and about the different fields in engineering.
