Overland Park, Kan. (April 23, 2008) – The Vietnam Government recently
presented Black & Veatch, a leading global engineering, consulting and
construction company, with a Safety Excellence Award for implementing
exceptional safety procedures and training during the company’s energy project
at the Saigon Hi-Tech Park.
“This important award results from the collaborative efforts between our job
site management team and the Vietnamese contractors working on the project,”
said Mark Prenni, Vice President, and Director of Corporate Environmental,
Safety, Health and Security Services for Black & Veatch. “There have been
more than 330,000 safe-work hours recorded, with no injuries on the project.
Our goal is to provide safe, reliable and vital infrastructure solutions that
meet our clients’ needs.”
Black & Veatch is providing safety training, equipment and safety
coordination during its engineering, construction and procurement project at
the Hi-Tech Park. The project includes construction of a 110-kilovolt (kV)
substation and supporting transmission lines designed to provide reliable
energy delivery for a major manufacturing plant being constructed in the
Hi-Tech Park.
The substation will provide 22 kV of power feed to serve a computer chip
manufacturing plant. There are a total of 2.5 miles of overhead and underground
transmission lines, with the underground line being one of the first of its
kind installed in Vietnam. The project is scheduled to be completed in
2008.
The Saigon Hi-Tech Park is southwest of Ho Chi Minh City and covers 2,256
acres. It focuses on attracting companies involved in semi-conductor chips,
information technology, telecommunications, automation, precision engineering,
new materials, nano and biotech uses applicable to healthcare, pharmaceuticals
and the environment.
In addition to its energy presence in Vietnam, Black & Veatch also is
involved in providing water infrastructure in the country.
