Overland Park, Kan. (August 19, 2008) -- Black & Veatch, a leading
global engineering, consulting and construction company, announced today it has
launched services designed to address sustainability challenges faced by
wireless communications service providers.
These services address the increasingly important need for the wireless
industry to proactively assess areas such as monitoring carbon footprint,
reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and implementing renewable energy usage.
“Black & Veatch’s perspective as a global leader in energy, water and
telecommunications infrastructure, strongly positions us as the ideal service
provider in this market,” said Martin Travers, President of Black &
Veatch’s Telecommunications Division. “We understand all aspects of
environmental monitoring; planning and implementation, and can provide valuable
solutions for our clients and their customers.”
The wireless industry faces challenges related to environmental and climate
change regulations. Wireless service providers have hundreds or thousands of
wireless cell sites across the territories that they serve, and Travers said
each site is subject to local, state and federal zoning and regulation. He
added that the requirements determine where cell sites are located; materials
used at each site, and the type of generation that can be used to provide
electricity to each site.
Mike Romesburg, Director, Telecom Sustainable Solutions for Black &
Veatch, will lead the new service initiative. Romesburg’s 20 years of
telecommunications experience positions him to effectively assist industry
clients in developing and implementing sustainable solutions to address climate
change, energy assurance and environmental conditions.
“We believe that our expertise in addressing these challenges is unique in
the industry and valuable to our clients,” said Romesburg. “By implementing
sustainable solutions, our clients can achieve greater operational efficiency,
which directly affects their financial performance.”
