Environmental Remediation

Technically proficient and cost-effective solutions that return long-term, positive environmental and community outcomes

Environmental Remediation

Black & Veatch has decades of experience addressing the most complex environmental remediation challenges for our clients. From national governments to commercial and industrial clients, our team of dedicated environmental services professionals can help develop and execute comprehensive clean-up efforts for project sites, water supplies and facility types. From remedial investigations, feasibility studies and risk assessments to implementing design, corrective actions and brownfield site clean-up of soil, sediments and groundwater, Black & Veatch can help achieve your long-term sustainability, community and natural resource management goals.

As one of the original Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund Act contractors, we have been supporting the program since its inception in 1982. This includes clean-up of more than 500, complex, long-term hazardous waste and contamination sites. We also support public and private property owners on brownfield site investigations as well as the exploration of alternative and innovative land reuse solutions.

With decades of experience in initial bench-scale testing a variety of technologies, our project designs can integrate new and innovation treatment solutions and we can partner with you through remedial systems operations implementation and maintenance stages.

Our work also extends to nuclear and radiological remediation as we were the first engineering consultant to decommission a nuclear facility in the United States. We also have extensive experience in mitigating risks to water supply and land from man-made chemical pollutants to protect human health.

Our integrated environmental services teams focus on cost-effective and technically proficient solutions that result in fast and efficient remediation solutions that benefit both the environment and local communities long-term.

Black & Veatch provides a full spectrum of hazardous, toxic and radioactive waste remediation solutions. We perform initial benchmarking studies through systems operation support. We also research and explore new and innovative solutions with green technology partners to extract and eliminate polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), the most widespread toxin in the world, as well as dioxins and other chlorinated contaminants from soils, sediments and liquids.

Harmful man-made chemical pollutants such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) challenge the delivery of safe and clean water supplies. Black & Veatch has extensive experience in the safest and most innovative PFAS treatment and remediation solutions. We offer specialized expertise in granular activated carbon (GAC), ion exchange (IX), and reverse osmosis (RO) processes and technologies. We develop tailored solutions based on specific water quality requirements, keeping health and environmental impacts top of mind.

Mine site closures and remediation can present a variety of risks and a wide range of environmental challenges. We help our clients manage these risks through our more than 50 years of experience working with mining and energy resource companies managing all aspects of their environmental programs. Services include acid mine drainage mitigation, storm water management design and mitigation of contaminated groundwater plumes.
