On December 27, 2019 a civil lawsuit was filed against a dozen government contractors, including Black & Veatch, regarding work performed in Afghanistan several years ago. The lawsuit alleges that contractors working to rebuild that country paid protection money to the Taliban.
We have reviewed the complaint, retained counsel to address this matter in court, and have no reason to believe the allegations have any merit.
B&V’s Work in Afghanistan. During our time in Afghanistan, our professionals provided lawful services to – and at the direction of – our client, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). We have completed projects that more than doubled the amount of reliable power available to the country's hospitals, schools, businesses and homes, under our contract with USAID.
A History of Support for the Military. Over the years we have taken specific steps to recruit veterans, whose expertise and leadership skills are vital to delivering solutions for clients. Today, our MERGE Employee Resource Group is a vital bridge between Black & Veatch military professionals, veterans and their families. Every day we honor their commitment.
