Black & Veatch Provides Program Management Services for Smart Grid Solution

The City of Fort Collins Utilities (Fort Collins) was awarded a Smart Grid Investment Grant (SGIG) by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for the deployment of an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) system and other smart grid technologies.

Black & Veatch assisted Fort Collins by leading an assessment of its business, operating and customer requirements. This assessment provided an integrated smart grid solution roadmap inclusive of AMI and MDMS (meter data management system) technologies. Similar assessments are under way for delivery of a fully integrated customer Web portal, demand response management system and supporting implementation services.

Black & Veatch is providing comprehensive program management services that align with DOE reporting, as required of Fort Collins for its SGIG. Black & Veatch is providing integrated scheduling, risk management, quality management, scope management and integrated project management oversight of all smart grid technology solutions procured under this project. Development and execution of all system testing and acceptance activities are the final steps.

Through its partnership with Fort Collins, Black & Veatch offers industry experience in a collaborative environment that taps the broad experience and energy of the Fort Collins team and adds to it the knowledge gained by Black & Veatch in its numerous smart grid engagements. This provides Fort Collins with the unique opportunity to blend the best ideas to achieve its long-term goals.

By tapping into Black & Veatch’s industry knowledge of smart grid solution implementation, Fort Collins is able to thoughtfully examine and implement a balanced solution that meets its environmental goals.
