STEM education pivotal to Indonesia digital economy success, smart city vision

Black & Veatch donates IT equipment to foster curiosity in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)

Information and communications technology (ICT) literacy is vital to maximizing Indonesia’s digital potential.

The digital economy is a core component of Indonesia’s smart city vision. In support of the smart city vision, Black & Veatch donated more than 120 computers and laptops to 13 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Indonesia.

"Our Jakarta office, through the Black & Veatch Foundation, is proud to support Indonesia’s STEM initiatives. STEM knowledge is critical to solving our future infrastructure challenges," said Abhay Telang, Deputy Country Manager, Black & Veatch Indonesia.

The NGOs include schools that are educating students on software, graphic design and photo editing. Others are charitable foundations educating local communities about waste management programs.

A common cause unifies Black & Veatch and the NGOs: empowering remote communities to achieve smart, safe and sustainable cities, through education.

Black & Veatch is committed to universal electrification to promote economic and social development, including education through improved technology and Internet access.

Black & Veatch employs more than 100 professionals in Indonesia and has tripled the size of its local staff in less than two years. Since 1969, Black & Veatch has undertaken nearly 100 energy and water projects across 24 provinces throughout Indonesia. In power generation alone, the company has contributed almost 15,000 megawatts (MW) of installed capacity throughout the country.
