Navigating NEVI Funding

Navigating NEVI Funding

As electric vehicle (EV) adoption continues to grow, the need for a reliable and widespread charging infrastructure becomes increasingly important. The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula (NEVI) is a bipartisan law that provides funding to states for the deployment of EV charging infrastructure. Black & Veatch is a leader in consulting, design, engineering, procurement, and construction services for organizations interested in applying for NEVI funding.

The interconnected NEVI network will facilitate data collection, access, and reliability for EV charging funding and infrastructure development. NEVI funding can cover up to 80% of eligible EV charging infrastructure project costs, including the acquisition, installation, and network connection of EV charging stations, as well as their proper operation and maintenance for up to five years. The following are general requirements for funding eligibility:

  • Must be non-proprietary

  • Provide open-access payment methods

  • Public availability or availability to authorized commercial motor vehicle operators from more than one company

  • Location within one mile of established alternative fuel corridors (AFCs)

  • Capacity to charge at least four vehicles at 150 kW simultaneously

  • Minimum of a five-year maintenance plan on equipment

  • Regular reporting of uptime with a minimum working order 97% of the time

  • Ability to cover the remaining 20% of program costs

Black & Veatch has the experience and resources to help navigate federal funding requirements and ensure compliance with NEVI regulations. From consulting to due diligence to engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services, we can provide a single-source partnership for EV charging infrastructure needs. With early involvement from Black & Veatch, organizations can take advantage of NEVI funding to accelerate the deployment of EV charging infrastructure, enabling a more reliable and widespread charging network for electric vehicles.

NEVI funding and miles of alternative fuel corridors are determined at the state level, and each state has a different process and estimated funding.
