Black & Veatch to Share Its Global Power Expertise at Key Middle East Conference

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members are continuing fuel diversification efforts while ensuring reliable energy in the region, according to Black & Veatch ahead of this year’s POWER-GEN Middle East event in Abu Dhabi, UAE, 12-14 October 2014.

To support economic and population growth, and reduce dependence on oil to generate electricity, there is a need to maintain and modernize power generation facilities in many GCC countries. Continued investment in sound and sustainable solutions will pave the way.

Decades of technical and business leadership position Black & Veatch to help clients address the region’s most pressing energy challenges. At POWER-GEN Middle East Black & Veatch professionals will share best practices and insights based on their global experiences.

The POWER-GEN Middle East Conference and Exhibition will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).

Key considerations will be provided for successful solar photovoltaic (PV) design and the cost effective conversion of operating combustion turbine plants:

Combined Cycle Conversion & Life Cycle Cost Analysis. The region is increasingly recognizing the effectiveness of gas turbines in producing clean, reliable power, and the conversion of operating simple cycle facilities to combined cycle improves efficiencies and maximizes plant output. Gautam Pai, Engineering Manager, will identify key considerations for competitive energy generation and the path to address combined cycle conversion challenges. Pai has over 16 years of expertise. Session 5, 13 October, 14:00 p.m. to 15:30 p.m.

Solar photovoltaic (PV) design considerations for the Middle East: The continued growth of solar PV in the Middle East requires the modification of system designs. Black & Veatch’s Richard O’Connell, Director, Solar PV Services, will assess key issues and highlight system design impacts for solar PV deployment in the region, including specific solar resource, environmental considerations, and high ambient temperatures. O’Connell has over nine years of expertise. Session 6, 13 October, 16:00 p.m. to 17:30 p.m.
