Black & Veatch EPC Solar PV Expansion Brings More Clean Energy to Canada

Project Name
Sault Ste. Marie 3 Solar PV Expansion
Location
Ontario, Canada
Client
Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR)

Black & Veatch provided engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for an expansion of the existing Sault Ste. Marie 3 (SSM3) solar park, owned by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts. The expansion added an estimated 1,600 megawatt-hours per year of clean energy production to the existing solar photovoltaic (PV) facility, located in Ontario, Canada. This expansion is enough to power an additional 167 households.

The expansion was executed in a compressed time-frame despite challenging weather conditions.

The plant’s installed DC capacity was raised 12 percent by increasing the existing inverter loading ratio. This outcome required the use of components – such as fixed tilt racks, PV modules and combiner boxes – that were compatible with the existing SSM3 installation.
