Black & Veatch designed and constructed an LNG tank boil-off gas (BOG) reliquefaction project at the site of Sempra Energy’s Cameron LNG import terminal. The BOG liquefaction plant is designed to condense boil-off gas from the existing LNG tanks using Black & Veatch’s proprietary PRICO single mixed refrigeration cycle for a single liquefaction unit. The facility is designed for a nominal BOG capacity of 12 million standard cubic feet daily (MMSCFD).

Black & Veatch provided engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services from initial project design and engineering through facility start-up. This included front-end engineering, permitting support and detailed design.

The project was designed, built and tested 21 months after Black & Veatch was awarded the project. This rapid timeline included the initial selection of PRICO. Another significant milestone was the completion of start-up and performance testing 12 days after mechanical completion. 

Black & Veatch also provided technical support to Sempra for the filing and commissioning of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) permits and plant authorization. Construction of the Cameron LNG facility was performed by Overland Contracting Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Black & Veatch.
