Project

Chino Hills 500 kV Underground Transmission Line Project

Southern California Edison (SCE) selected Black & Veatch to design the first 500 kV underground transmission project in North America. This project places a 3.5 mile portion of the existing overhead 500 kV Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Project (TRTP) underground through the city of Chino Hills, a suburb of Los Angeles, CA.

Southern Maryland Reliability Project

Black & Veatch provided Program Management, Permitting, Engineering, Procurement Services, and Construction Management for SMECO’s Southern Maryland Reliability Project. The Project involved two new 230/69kV substations, twenty-eight (28) miles of 230/69kV overhead transmission line, and a two mile 230kV underground transmission line crossing of the Patuxent River.

Embarcadero - Potrero 230 kV Underground Transmission Line

Black & Veatch provided engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for this project, which included a new 230 kV XLPE cable transmission line circuit entirely within the City and County of San Francisco from the new Embarcadero GIS Substation to the new Potrero GIS Substation.

The new 230 kV transmission line is approximately 3.5 miles in length, including approximately 2.5 miles installed offshore in the seafloor of San Francisco Bay, 0.4 mile installed in horizontal directional drills (HDD) from two onshore transition points to the Bay, and approximately 0.6 miles installation of duct bank via underground trenching.
